Sri Lanka is a small island in the Indian Ocean, off the southern coast of India. Although small, it is a beautiful island with a high geological and diverse climate. Rich in archaeologically valuable historical sites, various landscapes full of beauty, and breathtaking waterfalls, it is also possible to experience one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. It is a train journey that runs from Kandy to Badulla, a distance of about 180 km. This article presents a brief description of some of the important places encountered on the train journey and having a good knowledge about them will make the taste of this more intense. This journey, which is passed through lush tea plantations, mist-covered mountains, and beautiful waterfalls, will undoubtedly be an unforgettable memory in your life. This begins from the world heritage city of Kandy, and you will realize the interestingness of this journey as soon as you start and travel a short distance.

Hatton:

Devotees who come to pay homage to the popular Sripada (Adam’s peak), should alight at Hatton Railway Station and begin their journey.

Nanu Oya:

The highest city in the hill country, Nuwara Eliya, nicknamed Little England, is about 6 km away from Nanu Oya Railway Station.

Pattipola

The highest railway station in Sri lanka located at an altitude at 1900m above main sea level. And to a gateway to Horton plains national park

Tunnel no.18:

Also known as summit tunnel.  This is located near Pattipola station and is the highest and third longest tunnel in railway track. Due to it's high altitude location, the two ends of the tunnel experiences completely different wheather conditions at the same time.

Haputhale

Here you can enjoy the fresh aroma of the lush tea plantations and view the views of a beautiful environment covered in mist. The famous Lipton's seat is also located near Haputale Railway Station.

Ella:

There are several important places around the city of Ella, which is a beautiful tourist destination.

Nine Arch Bridge:

This bridge, which is 300 feet long, 25 feet wide and about 90 feet high, is also known as the sky bridge and is a magnificent creation built during the British rule.

Ella rock:

This is a mountain in Sri Lanka known for people hiking trail that offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, tea plantations and beautiful waterfalls.

Little Adam's peak :

A popular trekking destination near Ella.  Approximately two hours round trip walk through tea plantations that offers spectacular panoramic views of Ella gap and surrounding valleys from its summit at 1100m.

Demodara loop:

This was constructed to solve the problem of steep gradients in the hills for constructing the railway track.  It is a spiral track wear the train passes underneath itself through a tunnel that emerges directly below the Demodara railway station showing an engineering marvel.

Badulla:

The final destination of the journey with nearby attractions like Diyaluma falls and flying Rawana mega zipline
